TRUMP IN VATICAN CITY TO MEET THE POPE
Mr Trump looked expressionless as he descended on the Vatican on Wednesday for his first face-to-face encounter with the Argentinean pontiff.Welcoming the US president in the papal library, Pope Francis did not exhibit his usual warmth and joyfulness even as President Trump proclaimed that it was a “great honour” to meet him.
Photographs taken during their meeting showed a gloomy looking Pope, in contrast to the smiles when Francis met Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama, who reportedly used to carry a rosary with him that was given to him by the pontiff.
The tensions was high as perhaps expected, the two did not agree on what lies closest to Francis’s heart, from the issues of climate change to the need to welcome and accept migrants of all faiths. They also discussed world affairs, including interfaith dialogue and peace in the Middle East, with emphasis on the protection of Christians.
