US PULLS OUT OF PARIS ACCORD ON CLIMATE CHANGE
Donald Trump announced that the US will withdraw from the PARIS climate change deal. The move was immediately condemned by environmental activist and the Presidents' political opponent. Many termed the move as a catastrophic one saying it had put the world on a dangerous path.
Nevertheless, the US President held out dreams of a compromise saying he would instantly start a process to forge a fairer deal that would protect American workers.
At a press brief in White House rose garden , the Mr Trump pointed out that he wanted to put American sovereignty as a priority .
"We don't want other countries and other leaders laughing at us anymore," he said, adding that the current deal could cost the US as many as 2.7 million jobs by 2025.
“The Paris climate accord is simply the latest example of Washington entering into an agreement that disadvantages the United States, to the exclusive benefit of other countries, leaving American workers, who I love, and taxpayers to absorb the cost in terms of lost jobs, lower wages, shuttered factories and vastly diminished economic production,” he said.
Americas which is responsible for about 15 percent of global emissions of carbon had promised $3 billion to help other nations. This means its' absence will affect other countries and make it considerable hard for them to achieve their goals agreed goals.
The US came under a last minute flurry of pressure not to abandon the deal even as new data revealed that the Paris agreement had failed to stop greenhouse gas emissions rising in the European Union in 2015.
